Our actions are deeply influenced by our beliefs. The patterns of our beliefs shape the patterns of our daily actions, and these actions, in turn, define the circumstances of our lives. If we have a bad habit, we can break free from it by changing the underlying belief. However, to change a belief, we must first identify the “rules” we tell ourselves that reinforce it.
For instance, a person who wakes up late every day might have an internal rule like, “I am mentally and physically tired and need more sleep,” or, “If I wake up early, I will feel exhausted.” These rules create a belief system that leads to habitual late waking, which manifests in their life.
Similarly, if someone pays for a gym membership but avoids going regularly, their internal rule might be, “I feel too tired after work to exercise.” This rule feeds into their belief and justifies their inaction.
The solution lies in changing these rules. When you change the rules, you change the beliefs—and when you change the beliefs, you change your life. It all starts with awareness and a conscious decision to rewrite the narrative you tell yourself.
